We arrived at HCMC today at around 8.30 am, and headed directly from HCMC airport to Mui Ne. Due to traffic congestion, what used to be a 3hr car ride is now a 4.5 hr car ride. Consequently, by the time we arrived for check in into the excellent Shades Resort, it was already the late afternoon. As our last meal was at 6 am, we headed out for lunch at Lam Tong restaurant, which is a popular local seafood restaurant that is a ten-minute walk away from Shades.

Apart from the usual seafood, we ordered a fried tofu with chilli and lemongrass (20000 dong, or 1 USD/1.50 SGD), and a chicken with chilli and lemongrass (35000 dong, or 2 USD/3 SGD). The tofu was so excellent that we ordered it again for lunch the next day. Once again, a cheap and delicious meal at Lam Tong.

Getting there and away from HCMC:

Apart from the private car option (up to 6 people), which costs around 80 USD each way, and offers more flexibility, there are cheaper options, especially if you are travelling on your own. There are many buses that leave HCMC in the morning, and these take around 4 hrs, and cost around 5 USD. Tickets can be purchased from most travel ‘agents’ located in the Pham Ngu Lao area.
